As complex, interconnected beings, when one aspect of our lives is off—whether nutritional, emotional, social, financial, or mental—our whole self is affected. At New Roads, we understand that addressing these challenges is essential for every child to feel comfortable, confident, and cared for. Only then can real learning happen. Our faculty build strong relationships with students to identify and address these inhibitors to wellbeing. That's why our educators study social and cognitive neuroscience, equipping themselves with tools to become empathetic communicators and trusted mentors.
A cornerstone fostering wellbeing is Council, a faculty-led activity where students share stories, listen deeply, and connect on a personal level. Guided by four principles—speak from the heart, listen from the heart, be concise, and be spontaneous—Council fosters a culture of care and openness. In this environment, students feel seen, valued, and supported.
