Wendy Garcia Osorio Awarded the Renowned Posse Scholarship Leadership Award

Congratulations to Senior Wendy Garcia Osorio who has been named a 2022 Posse Scholar. The Posse Foundation awards seniors who demonstrate extraordinary leadership potential with full four-year college scholarships and leadership training. Due to New Roads School’s mission to serve an authentically diverse student community, we are one of a handful of independent schools eligible to nominate students for Posse. This highly competitive college program named only 90 Posse Scholars this year out of 2,200 applicants.

Alejandra Bonilla, Director of College Counseling, says, “Wendy’s experiences, voice, and leadership have been significant contributions to our school’s social justice mission. She has maintained consistent leadership and involvement across different student organizations, including the Latine affinity club and Feministas group, beautifully incorporating her intersectional identities into each one. Being named a Posse Scholar is a life-changing opportunity for a first-generation college-going student, and I’m incredibly proud to see that Wendy’s academic and leadership qualities were recognized within this national platform. Her high school journey is an example of excellence that younger students are sure to follow.”
