Four Seniors Named POSSE Scholarship Semi-Finalists

New Roads is proud to announce that four seniors have been named semi-finalists for the Posse Foundation Scholarship. Through nominations submitted by high schools and community-based organizations throughout Los Angeles, Posse identifies students with strong leadership potential and invites them to apply to their scholarship. Due to New Roads School’s mission to serve a diverse student community, we are one of a handful of independent schools eligible to nominate students for Posse.

LeRoya, Katia, Kendall, and Parker are four young women who have demonstrated exceptional leadership and academic commitment throughout their four years at New Roads. These young leaders participated in a rigorous application process that included a non-traditional assessment of leadership skills evaluated through teamwork, small and large group interviews, and an evaluation for overall motivation to succeed. All four students were first introduced to New Roads through the Young Eisner Scholars (YES) and A Better Chance (ABC), two community-based organizations focused on providing educational access for students from low-income communities. Two of these students will be part of the first generation in their families to pursue a four-year college degree. As leaders, and as young women of color, they are truly an inspiration and our school community is extremely proud of them!

The Posse Foundation awards a full-tuition leadership scholarship through a collaboration with their partners colleges, including Hobart & William-Smith Colleges; Northwestern University; UC Berkeley; Bucknell University; Kalamazoo College; Pepperdine University; University of Wisconsin, Madison; Dickinson College; Middlebury College, and Tulane University. Posse Scholars graduate college at a rate of 90 percent, much higher than the national average of 59%.
