  • Exciting things are happening at New Roads!

Our 5th and 6th grade Odyssey of the Mind team has earned a spot in the World Championships at Michigan State University next month. This creative problem-solving competition encourages students to develop and use their natural creativity in problem solving while emphasizing teamwork, budgeting, time management, public speaking and confidence. To help fund their trip, the team is hosting a bake sale - we’re looking forward to supporting them (and enjoying some sweet treats) as they prepare to compete on the world stage.

Prior to tonight’s LA Angels vs. Pittsburgh Pirates game, our Cross Country and Girls Soccer teams will be honored at Angels Stadium with the CIF Academic Achievement Award for having the highest team GPA in our school category (4.0+ and 3.916 respectively). This recognition speaks to the hard work, dedication, and balance our talented student-athletes have shown in both the classroom and on the field. Go Jags!

Next Thursday is College Commitment Day, we are excited to celebrate our seniors as they select the colleges and universities they will attend in the fall. We are very proud that the class of 2025 have been recognized as talented, purposeful, and engaged by college admissions offices throughout the country. This 79-student class has already received 5 acceptances at USC, 8 acceptances at NYU, 6 acceptances at UCLA, 9 acceptances at UC San Diego, 10 acceptances at UC Berkeley, and 4 acceptances at Columbia, and includes a Questbridge Scholar and a Posse Scholar.

Looking ahead, there’s even more to celebrate - Elementary School STEAM Day, our annual 12th grade rite-of-passage trip to Zion, the Middle School Speech and Debate team competing in the National Championships, the 23rd Annual New Roads Film Festival, New Roads ArtaPalooza, our annual campus-wide celebration of art and music (details below) and much more!

  • dear

    Dear New ES Families,

Where does the time go? We are getting close to the end of the year with only two weeks left of school. This is a bittersweet time for me as it is hard to send off our 5th graders to Middle School and watch the students head to their summer vacations until August. The next few weeks are packed with a lot of culminating activities, though we are making time to reflect on our accomplishments and growth over the year. As I write this letter, we are currently in the midst of our spring-time, student-led conferences. Parents and their child(ren) meet with their teachers while the student presents their portfolio of work, and their favorite projects, and reflect on their greatest challenges and strengths. They also spend time discussing the year ahead and what they are most looking forward to. Spring conferences are one of our most special celebrations of the year!

Last Friday, May 17, we had one of our most beloved New Roads events, Newroadsapalooza. It was wonderful to see some of our Elementary, Middle, and Upper School students showcase their amazing musical talents on several stages throughout campus. I was able to see some of our new-to-New Roads families in attendance; if you came to the event, I hope you enjoyed it!

On Thursday, May 23, we will gather in the Moss Theater at 6 PM for our annual Elementary School Musical Revue. Feel free to come and see what our upper elementary students have been rehearsing for months. Our young thespians are so talented and love to perform.

As we savor our last few events, such as our sports banquet, spring concerts, Kindergarten graduation, and 5th grade culmination, I have all of you in mind. Soon you will be here experiencing these moments and I am looking forward to watching your child and your family feel the embrace of your new, New Roads community.

As always, if you have any questions now or over the summer, feel free to reach out to me.

    Warm Regards,
    Martha
