New Roads School’s K-12 Program inspires creativity, critical thinking, and a lifelong love of learning through our dynamic approach that emphasizes intellectual curiosity, social responsibility, and personal growth. Academic classes are aligned with current national standards, but are not confined by them. Academic programs are developed to meet the diverse needs of our students through a balance of traditional and innovative methods that encourage students to explore passions, challenge themselves, and collaborate with others, empowering them to become thoughtful, engaged citizens in an ever-changing world.

As students progress through our K-12 Program, they gain increasing freedom, independence, and choice in personalizing their educational journey. We recognize the challenges of being a young person and offer the support and guidance needed for intellectual, social, and emotional growth. While we ask a great deal from our students, they also hold high expectations for the community they are part of. Learning at New Roads is rooted in hands-on experiences, from science labs and project-based social sciences to practices that make thinking visible in math and writing. Through this immersive approach, students develop critical thinking skills, whether exploring language and culture in Modern Languages or engaging in thoughtful discussions in English, that fosters deep, authentic understanding and prepares students to confidently navigate complex challenges.

New Roads’ supportive environment encourages students to explore their passions while strengthening academic and social-emotional skills. In the Elementary School, students apply real-world problem-solving through the Illustrative Math curriculum, building a strong conceptual understanding and a solid foundation of numeracy. Our Language Arts program, guided by the science of writing and reading, incorporates oral proficiency alongside reading and writing, while Social Studies focuses on understanding diverse human experiences through themes of empathy, social justice and active citizenship. In Middle School, we honor the unique development of each student by blending structure with freedom. Our core curriculum fosters creativity, critical thinking, and effective communication, while electives offer opportunities for exploration in areas like performing arts, visual arts, STEM, and new media. Through project-based learning and hands-on experiences, students build knowledge and take on the responsibility of global citizenship. In Upper School, students continue core studies and expand their learning through a wide range of electives, clubs, and community programming. With the support of mentors and college counselors, they grow into all-terrain learners, prepared to contribute meaningfully to society.

Graduates leave New Roads as individuals of courageous character, equipped to make an impact in their communities and beyond. New Roads' graduation requirements not only meet but exceed the eligibility criteria for the California State University (CSU) and University of California (UC) systems.
